Over the years I have become something of a portable CD-player connoisseur. Indeed, I have many leather-bound portable CD-players in my portable CD-player library. jk. I have, however, bought units from Sony, Panasonic, Philips, and now Coby. The others worked fine, channeled my music through my Sony MDR-XD100 headphones at a high quality.
But recently I broke two of my players, so it was time to look for a newer, less expensive machine.
The price of the Coby player is what attracted me to it. I thought, wow, for twelve dollars and the price of shipping I could have a new, black portable player. And I was right! But I was also extraordinarily disappointed. First of all, one touch, or even the remote thought of a touch, will interrupt your disc for a second or two, at least.
Second of all - one touch, or even the remote thought of a touch will interrupt your music! That should be nuff said.
Other defects, or shortcomings, include the ancient format of the Play/Stop/Forward/Rewind buttons. They're so big and inconvenient!
Anyway, without becoming too upset I would warn you not to buy a CD player from Coby! Or anything else from a company that sells rubbish products like this!

Finding decent boom boxes is a challenge these days. There are still some out there but the features are few and sound quality is poor.
I was looking for a small to medium size boombox for my pre-teen daughter which can play MP3 CD's and included a digital radio receiver, tape player, and had a nice full sound.
After much searching area stores and online I came across the Naxa Portable MP3/CD player.
The Naxa is fairly small and the sound quality is decent but does not compare in volume or base to the large and ugly Sony Xplod boxes.
What the Naxa does well is to play MP3 files from its USB/SD port or CD player. The radio is manually tuned (you have to be kidding) but actually gets good reception of a somewhat week FM station my kids like to listen to. The USB/SD feature is especially useful and is now a requirement for me.
There is no cassette tape player which is understandable these days as finding some thing to play tapes on is becoming increasingly rare.
For the price the Naxa has been a good value and is being used by the kids to play their favorite radio station, CD's, and MP3's at low to moderate volumne levels. I'm glad I found it. |
Coby CX-CD241 Portable CD Player with AM/FM Stereo Tuner
Take your favorite tunes on the road or to the park with this portable CD boom box. Sporting a unique, rounded chassis with red highlights that's way more fashionable than standard boxy models, the CX-CD241 is an ideal choice for music fans who want a little extra style with their sounds. Fortunately for listeners, the cool shape doesn't detract from the music, as the CD player still includes all the basics and a few extras. Among the features are standard skip, search, and repeat one and all functions, along with programmable track memory for listeners who want to create a custom soundtrack. When the CDs are played out, listeners can turn to the AM/FM tuner for a less-structured playlist.
The CX-CD241 owes its audio performance to its 1-bit digital-to-analog converter, which ensures a clean CD sound, and its pair of wide-ranging side speakers. Rounding out the feature set is a digital two-digit LED display, a telescoping FM antenna, and a flip-up carrying handle. The unit runs on either AC power or six C-size batteries (not included) and measures a compact 8.25 by 5.5 by 8.5 inches (W x H x D). And as with all Coby audio products, the CX-CD241 is backed by a 90-day warranty. |
