Broadway musical Chicago Vocal Score Sheet Music

Chicago: From the Hit Broadway Musical - Hits You Can Sing Too!
This is a new recording of selections from the Broadway musical Chicago, by John Kander and Fred Ebb. The show was
nominated for 11 Tony Awards in 1976, including Best Musical and Best Score. This album features two versions of each song:
tracks 1-14 contain the background music and guide vocals, tracks 15-28 contain the accompaniment music alone. All songs
are in the original show key, and show tempo.
The album is recorded in the CD+G format. When played in a karaoke machine, lyrics will appear on-screen. In a
conventional CD player no lyrics will appear onscreen, however a booklet of the lyrics is enclosed in the CD jewel case. If
you love to sing, this is a must-buy for your collection.
I saw Chicago on Broadway with a top cast, and loved it. Then I bought the soundtrack, and sang along with it, and really
enjoyed it. But when I found the karaoke CD, I bought it also because I love to sing, and with all of the words to all of
the songs, I enjoy being accompanied by an orchestra, and not having to try to sing over the cast album. Although the
performers voices on the karaoke are not those of the quality on the soundtrack from the show, the orchestral tracks allow
me to sing, record, and listen to how I sound on my own (pretty good, I must say modestly)! And I just heard that the
movie of Chicago is coming out later this year, and I can't wait! So this CD should be a great one to enable me to learn
all of the words and melodies, without trying to sing over the voices of the soundtrack. Both are musts if you like Broadway
shows, and super-musts if you love the music from the show as much as I do! |

Chicago - The Musical (1996 Broadway Revival Cast)
"Chicago's plot was cynical and satirical in 1975, but today feels like a documentary." So says Walter Bobbie, the
director responsible for this revival of the Kander, Ebb, and Fosse "musical vaudeville," which began as a minimalist concert
staging for New York City Center's Encore! series before moving on to Broadway, critical acclaim, and Tony Awards. Actually,
it'd be hard to go wrong with any production, no matter how it's staged, because the Roaring '20s jazz-based music here is simply
great. Some people actually prefer the original's Gwen Verdon and Chita Rivera as Roxie and Velma to Ann Reinking and Bebe
Neuwirth, but no matter. Joel Grey is perfect as Amos Hart, James Naughton matches Jerry Orbach's original Billy Flynn, and
again, the music here is wonderful. A near-flawless classic. --Bill Holdship First of all, this is the recording that got
me interested in Chicago. Velma, (my favorite character)is played by the beautiful and talented Bebe Neuwirth. She is a
wonderful and witty Velma Kelly. Ann Reinking is a great Roxie. I actually prefer her raspy voice over Renee Zellweger's soft
Roxie. James Naughton is SUPERB as Billy Flynn, he can make you laugh without hardly trying. Joel Grey as Amos Hart was a
wonderful choice, and finally, Marcia Lewis as 'Mama' Morton and D. Sabella as Mary Sunshine were also great contributions to
this album. Here is a list of the songs and their ratings. |

Music From the Miramax Motion Picture [SOUNDTRACK]
Audio CD The movie version of Kander and Ebb's Chicago was long in the making, but it's well worth the wait.
Director Rob Marshall's main change was to turn the classic musical numbers into fantasy sequences, but of
course this isn't obvious on CD. Most importantly, the arrangements are bursting with life while being true to
the show's spirit, and the casting is simply inspired. Catherine Zeta-Jones actually started her career on the
British boards (she was in The Pajama Game and 42nd Street), so her turn as slinky Velma Kelly isn't
that surprising; Renée Zellweger as Roxie Hart is more of a leftfield choice, but she shows she can handle the
singing demands with pizzazz. The real revelation may well be rapper
Queen Latifah, who belts out "When You're Good to Mama" with a marvelous affinity for the material. OK, so
the R&B reprise of "Cell Block Tango/He Had It Coming" by Queen Latifah,
Macy Gray, and Lil' Kim fails to convince, while Anastacia's "Love Is a Crime" is just blah (rest easy,
purists, it's over the end credits). On the other hand, the CD provides two bonuses: "Class," which was cut from
the movie, and "I Move On," a great duet written by Kander and Ebb for the final cut. It's really easy to mess up
film adaptations of Broadway shows. Happily, Chicago proves it can be done right. --Elisabeth Vincentelli |
