Laurindo Almeida Latin jazz Sheet music
Laurindo Almeida (September 2, 1917 – July 26, 1995) was a Brazilian virtuoso guitarist and composer who made many recordings of enduring impact in classical, jazz and Latin genres.
He is widely credited, with fellow artist Bud Shank, for creating the fusion of Latin and jazz which came to be known as the “Jazz Samba.”
Almeida was the first artist to receive Grammy Awards for both classical and jazz performances. His discography encompasses more than a hundred recordings over five decades.

Laurindo Almeida - Brazilian Reflections by Laurindo Almeida. For Guitar (Classical &
Fingerpicking). Chamber Music. Brazilian. Intermediate-Advanced. Book/CD Set. 40 pages. Published by Mel
Bay Publications, Inc (MB.95984BCD).
ISBN 9780786621019. Brazilian. 8.5" x 11" inches.
A collection of rich harmonic and contrapuntal vocal/ guitar arrangements by the renowned guitarist and composer,
Laurindo Almeida. Born in Sao Paulo Brazil in 1917 and immigrating to the U.S. in 1947, it was Almeida who brought
the bossa nova style to the United States long before it was so named. With Brazilian Reflections, the always elegant and
tasteful Almeida brings his skills as a supreme guitarist and arranger to bear in these stunning arrangements of
traditional and modern songs from Brazil. Written in standard notation with Portuguese lyrics. The companion CD
included with this book features Almeida accompanying his wife, soprano Deltra (Didi) Eamon Almeida, in spirited and
soulful renditions which reflect their love of this music and their life-long personal/ professional collaboration.
These arrangements are great, and a nice change from the standard Spanish guitar/voice music that most voice students
perform. They're a little simpler than what's on the recordings (Almeida plays some more interesting and detailed
fills), but a good guitar player can fit those in from listening to the recording...
if they want. By the way, a MUCH better recording is available with half of the songs from this book on it - it's
called "Duets With Spanish Guitar" with Almeida playing guitar and Salli Terri singing. If you buy this sheet music
to work on the songs, you should buy that cd for vocal stylings - the included cd is not as good for that. Again,
these are wonderful songs and should be performed more often than they are. It's also worth it to find a Brazilian to
help you with the Portuguese diction because on both recordings the dictions is innacurate, but the sheet music
is highly reccomended.

Laurindo Almeida (1917-1995) belongs to an elite group of Brazilian/American guitarists, who by composing important
works for the guitar reinstated the instrument in his native country as worthy of serious musical study.
Stylistically, his compositions synthesize his classical background, Afro-Brazilian rhythms, traditional Brazilian
music, and American jazz. This collection presents Almeida's solos preserving the original left and right
hand fingerings. The fingering is unique and tells us something about his skills as a professional guitarist. It
also reflects the Brazilian school of guitar technique in the 1930's. Written in standard notation only. |

20 Exitos del Mariachi Silvestre Vargas, Vol. 1
Latin Mariachi Music Audio CD
When one thinks of mariachis, what comes to mind is the large sombreros, traditional uniforms, and blaring
trumpets. But in the very early days of the mariachi, the trumpets were not an instrument in the band. The trumpet
became a part of the band in the fifties.
Mariachi music doesn't have to be only instrumental, and a treat is to include vocals. Here, the vocals vary with rich
deep sound to accentuate the instruments.
A variety of traditional rancheras, polkas, and ballads are included, and some of the classics that are forever associated
with mariachi bands.
Probably one of the most popular mariachi mubers has got to be "Guadalajara." That song is always symbolic of festivity and
liveliness. And listen to the lone strings on "Cielito Lindo" probably the most popular Mexican song ever. If Lucy Ricardo
knew it, everyone then knew it.
Another well-known song is the Mexican hat dance "Jarabe Tapatio". You can't help picture those dancers sashaying in
their flared costumes. In the tune "El Mariachi", the background sound of the members exude a sound of
reverberation.
Although there are more distinct versions of "La Marcha De Zacatecas" one can always appreciate this uplifting,
traditional wedding march song.
This is an excellent collection with great true sound! When I say true sound, I mean it is not remixed. This is sharp, crisp
and with an even sound!. |
