Aaliyah Dana Haughton (January 16, 1979
– August 25, 2001), who performed under the mononym Aaliyah, was an American
R&B recording artist, actress and model. She was born in Brooklyn, New York,
and was raised in Detroit, Michigan. At the age of 10, she appeared on the
television show Star Search and performed in concert alongside Gladys Knight.
At age 12, Aaliyah signed with Jive Records and her uncle Barry Hankerson's
Blackground Records. Hankerson introduced her to R. Kelly, who became her
mentor, as well as lead songwriter and producer of her debut album, Age Ain't
Nothing but a Number. The album sold three million copies in the United States
and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of
America (RIAA). After facing allegations of an illegal marriage with R.Kelly,
Aaliyah ended her contract with Jive and signed with Atlantic Records.
If your girl only knew That you was trying to get with me (what would
she do)
If your girl only knew That you was dissin' her to talk to me
She would probably leave you alone
She would probably curse you out and unplug her phone
I bet she'd be glad that you was gone
And then she wouldn't have to worry
If your girl only knew That I would want to kick it with you (if she
knew)
And if your girl could only see How you be calling me, getting fresh
with me
She would probably leave you alone
She would probably curse you out and unplug her phone
I bet she'd be glad that you was gone
And then she wouldn't have to worry
She's crazy to put up with you
Oh boy I won't be no fool
Let you like what you see
It ain't easy to get with me
But it's dumb to put up with you
I won't be no fool
Let you like what you see
It ain't easy to get with me
She would probably leave you alone
She would probably curse you out and unplug her phone
I bet she'd be glad that you was gone
And then she wouldn't have to worry
She would probably leave you alone [repeat]
If your girl only knew
(what you saying, what you saying, what you saying, huh?) [Fades Out]
