Viken Najarian
Viken Najarian is carrying on a family tradition that he learned from his grandfather, Dicran. Dicran Najarian was a renowned instrument maker and qanoon player in Beirut who immigrated to the US in 1977, and here passed on the legacy of this talent to his grandson.
While earlier generations oud builders used hand tools and a kerosene lamp in pursuing their craft, Viken Najarian brings to the art of oud building, new methods and innovative designs. Like other luthiers of this generation, Viken Najarian still relies largely on handwork but the level of craftsmanship and artistry as well as the availability of the finest hardwooods and spruce now enable builders to produce instruments of unparalleled quality.

Kanun
The kanun is a very old instrument which comes from Asia. The instrument
rests on the knees while the fingers, clad in picks, pluck the strings
individually. In the twentieth century, the Turks improved the design by
adding tuning keys to alter the pitch of individual strings by eighth or
quarter tones, thus facilitating transposition. This model differs from
STR007 by having more inlay, a finished bridge and more mandals. 72 nylon
stings. 18 inches wide and 41 inches long. Comes in padded bag.
